I finally had my appointment with Dr Seal today, and got my T prescription! My mum said she’d give me a lift into the town centre when I finish work tomorrow, otherwise I’d have to wait until the weekend to get hold of it. I’ve been prescribed the gel rather than injections because of some health matters I won’t go into, which is fine by me.

So the reason for the page being late is this monster of a panel. The page isn’t done quite yet, but it’s nearly there and might even make it up tonight. The page afterwards almost certainly won’t be up tomorrow because I have a medical appointment in London, but I’ll try not to skip the update altogether.

I also have a job again, at the same company as before. It’s a different branch though, and the work is somewhat less soul-destroying.

Confession: Even though I can appreciate all the characters being bi, I kinda wish there was something special about male romances and female romances. It feels less special if they say the same things. In Mass Effect, some are straight, some are gay, some are bi. To me, it brings more character. The DA2 romances just seemed very forced and not worth the effort. I mean whats the use if Fenris is going to say the same thing to you each time? It would be cool if romancables gave you something special.

What could they possibly do to differentiate them? I mean, besides relying on tired gender stereotypes. I’m bi and there’s really no difference for me between being attracted to a man or to a woman. If they’re going to change how the characters interact romantically with the protagonist, why not do it based on personality/dialogue choices instead of gender?

I hate it when people use ME romance as a comparison, because it has three games’ worth of love interests, and less content per character (not to mention varying levels of content depending on the character). If Dragon Age had over ten different love interests, I’m sure they could get away with making some of them gay or straight, but instead it has four per game (excluding Sebastian) and making them bi is the best way of giving everyone some choice.

This is something I enjoy doing in games with no voice acting at all, but when every single other character in the game is voiced, it just feels out of place if the protagonist doesn’t. Much as I love my Wardens, silent protagonists never feel like they belong in the game world. They feel like a blank avatar for the player instead of a character in their own right, and I always find that uncomfortable because the last thing I want to see the player character as is myself. Maybe it’s strange (and it probably says a lot about me) but I actually need that distance between the protagonist and myself to be properly immersed in the game.

Someone hacked into the website I set up for my dad’s business. I don’t know how (it’s not as if the website has any forms or anything), but they wiped all the pages and replaced them with a redirect to a virus. Here’s hoping there’s a newer backup than the one I found on my computer from late 2011.

Comic page will be up in the morning. The colouring is almost done, but I need to adjust the dialogue and I’m nowhere near coherent enough for that at the moment.

Failing at my new comic schedule already. The page is well underway now though, after some issues with a couple of panels that just wouldn’t work and had to be adjusted significantly from the pencils.

Made a new banner for Lemongrass. I’m not sure if it’s too fanservice-y or not. The relationship between these two isn’t really the focus of the comic (hence why I didn’t stick BL or whatever on the banner) and it develops quite slowly. I do think it looks more dynamic, though. And the title looks even less legible…I really need to make a vector of it so that I don’t end up scrawling all over a resized previous logo every time.

I think I’m going to continue posting two pages a week, but post them on different days (I’m thinking Monday and Thursday) because with the current schedule I tend to work really slowly on them at the start of the week, and then rush to get them finished at the last minute. Posting on different days is going to give the comic better exposure, along with having me having no excuse not to work hard on them all week.

It’s nice to finally have time to draw again, but not so fun when you’re so far behind you end up spending three days doing nothing but drawing in your free time.

I only got two hours at work today and have been working on those pages since I got home and they’re still not finished. My hand is currently trying to seize up, so I’m going to have to leave it for tomorrow to finish. I started working on the early pages while unemployed, and then the hours at work were initially really bad so I had plenty of free time, but these two weeks of full days has completely ruined my ability to keep on top of things. What time I have after I get back from work is mostly spent too exhausted to really concentrate on anything (my job is neither physically nor intellectually challenging, rather it’s soul destroying-ly dull and could probably be done by a dog, which leaves me feeling worse than if I were tired from something more satisfying).

I’ve decided that I just can’t go on making pages that require me to put so many hours in (I mean, I’d love to but it’s just not physically possible, and I don’t want to reduce updates). The rest of this chapter (another 10-15 pages depending on what further adjustment I make to the existing script and panel layouts) will be done in the same way, but from the second chapter onwards I’ll be changing the colouring to something simpler. I’ll still keep the backgrounds and detail in the inking the same because I think it would ruin the comic to get rid of either, but easing up on the shading should speed things up a little.
